Do you ever wish you could stop making excuses, procrastinating and start taking action towards something you want to achieve?
After so many times of procrastinating to do something I know is needed or is my ultimate goal- I’ve come to one conclusion about action. Thinking won’t do much good and will only lead to more thinking. Eventually your determination to take action will fade and you will be less likely to find strenght and do it.
Let me tell you that struggling with overthinking and procrastinating is a completely normal and common thing.
We all know what we have to do but from knowing to taking action is a huge step.
If you are anything like me, you probably had a situation in your life (or maybe you are in one right now) where you feel like you are not completely happy with the reality you are in. You are not where you would like to be, and your life is quite far from what you wish you had.
The main thing is that you REALISE that you NEED to DO something. You know that you should change something, but then nothing changes. You are not going that extra step because you don’t think that you are capable of doing that, you think it’s not for you, you don’t even think that know what you should do. Thinking, thinking, thinking.. (facepalm)
And so the days go by and you still catch yourself thinking that you want more.
Especially nowadays we see how successful other people are, what a perfect life they have, how much money they earn, how happy and beautiful they look. And there is you living a regular life, just going through the days without a bigger purpose. By looking at those people, you realise how general your life is, and you are just getting more upset thinking about that.
Guess what. You CAN have everything you want! And these are not just empty words. You really can.
It won’t come easy, because for all the good things you need to put in the work and efforts. However, everything is possible if you’re willing to work for it.
So were to start?
Forget the excuses
Excuses are the enemy and you need to run away from it as far as you can. I know it’s so easy to come up with an excuse that would justify why you can’t do something. But this is you against you and it won’t do any good if you keep bringing up those excuses.
Start with small promises for yourself that you know you can keep. And even when you don’t want to or don’t feel like it- still keep showing up for yourself!
The longer you wait with taking action, the more effort and willpower you will need to get started. Which brings us to another point.
There is no RIGHT time
You have probably heard this but I will say it again anyway. There is never the right time to do that thing you always wanted to do.
It might seem that you will feel more ready after some time; when you graduated, when you will be less busy, have less work and etc., but let me tell you- you won’t.
The truth is that your time will always be filled up. There will always come some unexpected things that will stop you from taking action and there will always be things to do.
So many times in the past I said to myself: ‘when I’ll be there, I’ll do this’ or ‘when I’ll feel ready, I’ll start doing that’. Guess what- never happened, that right time never came.
So one day you just have to stop all the bs in your head and take action, and that’s what I eventually did.
Go out of your comfort zone and and grow from it.
Follow your intuition and don’t let any doubts to stop you any longer from taking action now. There is no RIGHT time!
START SMALL
It will not happen overnight. It means that you need to take small steps at the time towards your goal and be consistent with it.
Consistency is KEY.
Now, going slowly but in the right direction is still better than standing still. Starting small means that it is enough to adopt one good habit at the time, which would bring you closer to your goal. New habits are great tools that you can start implementing in your daily routine.
We all have the small habits that we do every day. Whether they are conscious or subconscious, we perform them every day. And the important thing is – they can either be beneficial for us or they can harm us.
So start recognising the harmful ones and replace them with more beneficial ones.
Do you find yourself complaining that you don’t have enough time to do the things that you like?
Try to wake up at least 20 minutes earlier and see how you feel when you get done more. I know, it’s not always that easy to do as it is to say. But just try it once and see how you feel.
Want to become healthier?
Start drinking more water, and really be consistent with it. Eliminate one unhealthy product/ingredient a week from your nutrition. Look for healthy meals online and try implementing it a few times per week.
For anything that you would like to achieve, implementing small steps and creating new habits it will make you realise that you don’t need to start big and turn your whole world upside down in order to achieve something.
“The secret of getting ahead is getting started” – Mark Twain.
The first step is the easiest. You need to BELIEVE that you can achieve everything that you want.
Sounds amazing, right?
Keep reading to find out how you can stop procrastinating and finally start taking action towards something you want.
If you continuously say, I can’t reach that… I can’t afford that… I can’t have that – you won’t. The thing is, that you set your mind on the NEGATIVE. If you keep thinking about what you can’t have, you will never get it because you give up before even trying to achieve something.
So, what can you do in this case?
SHIFT YOUR MINDSET
Instead of thinking that you CAN’T do something, think HOW you can do that.
From my personal experience, I always knew that there is something more for me. I have never had a clear vision of what I would like to do in my future or where I see myself working. I did not have particular interests that I could fulfil with a specific profession.
Despite that, I knew what I don’t want to and that was my why to don’t give up and look for my way.
Here’s where you can start.
SET INTENTIONS
HAVE-YOUR-WHY. Without a good reason why you want to achieve something, it is much more difficult to start taking action.
So, ask this question to yourself: why do you need to take action? Will it bring you closer to your goal? Will it help you finish your assignment? Will it embrace a change in your life?
Whatever it is- just have an answer which will help you to be more motivated and determined to take action.
Sit down with yourself. Take a notebook. Think of your dreams. Where would you like to be, to live, what would you like to do?
Now think about why you can’t have it? Why are you not going for it?
Most probably your answers will be like: I don’t have the money, I don’t know where to start, I have responsibilities, this life is not for me, it’s just a dream.
The answer to that is: if you want it bad enough, you will find the way.
Set aside some money every month, look for some real stories how other people reached their dreams starting from zero. Look at your everyday life and see which part you could spend towards evolving, learning, researching possibilities, reach out for some help.
Just start.
Just take action.
